resolutions, schmezolutions

today’s Q: what resolution didn’t stick?

today’s A: n/a. not applicable because i stopped making resolutions long ago, and in doing so, i surrendered. i handed off control of my to others. here, i said, you, whoever you are, you be my rudder. you decide where i go, what i do, who i do it with. you decide my fate, my future, my now. i’ll just float along aimlessly and see what happens.

i quit with the resolutions because i felt inadequate and eroded when i didn’t stick to and complete them. i quit with the resolutions because i felt like i didn’t take up enough space in the world to be worthy of resolutions. i quit with the resolutions because i just didn’t think it was worth it. i didn’t think i was worth it.

but oh my goodness how much can change in a month’s time.

i still won’t make resolutions – but i will make something akin to plans. (not tonight, though, cause i’m watching mama mia.) (and i’ve had maybe a wee bit too much wine.) (but not enough to affect my spelling skills, just my planning skills.) (and don’t worry. i’m not leaving the house.) tomorrow, though. yes, tomorrow i will create a collage for 2010. tomorrow i become the architect of my own life.

and it may or may not involve words.

    Jeanne,

This is so beautiful. I am astounded by the tribe you have created in one short month. After reading all about you and your beautiful life, I can’t imagine you not taking up space…ever. You are a brilliantly giving soul. I want to shower you with the beauty you have showered on me. I know, from a place within, that we can only see in others what we know within ourselves. You are so worth everything beautiful in this world and I know your collage will be just what it needs to be…with or without words.
    Happy New Year, my friend.

and happy new year to you, too, julie. here’s wishing you a year filled with things that make you sign with satisfaction and smile without stopping.

I am very glad to be part of your tribe. It’s amazing to be on the threshold of a new year and everything that will bring. Enjoy creating your collage and intending the life you want. Happy 2010.

    • whollyjeanne

Hey it’s ever so cool to find myself included in your bibliography even though I don’t have the proper tribal/tweeting credentials. And it shouldn’t be relegated to “going without saying” that I am quite thrilled that you’ve discovered some supportive and inciting mechanisms for getting the Writing Thing into a stronger gear. Have been following the December posts quietly; drinking them in and letting them reveal their various forms of nourishment over time…

ACEY, my friend! you have all the credentials and more to be part of my tribe. oh how i have missed you. see my email for more catch-up. xoxxo.

I’m glad to have found you, Jeanne. Your words are tasty. Designing the architecture of your own life is tough but it’s rewarding. Hell, I’m working on it myself. Life architects. We rock.

    • whollyjeanne

well, there’s no “ergo” here or “hence”, but maybe one day. we do rock. you’re so right about that, amanda. we do indeed ROCK.

My guy Paul has the same resolution every year, ‘to continue to kick ass’. I must say, that it has been serving him very well since he made it.

    • whollyjeanne

LOL. love it. might steal that one next year;)

This is SO beautiful! I do make resolutions, but I’m never even brave enough to say them out loud so I won’t be held accountable. It’s like premeditated failure. In fact, on January 6th, I’ve already failed. But the window of opportunity to make positive changes in your life never really closes. Thanks for your inspirational post as a reminder.

    • whollyjeanne

this is my first time saying them aloud for the SAME REASON. but my PUBLIC reason for never sharing resolutions is that it’s like wishing on a star: tell it and it won’t come true. which now that i think about it, i’ve been using that theme all wrong.
