+ Her Barefoot Heart

honoring

11 11 11a

today is not the day to
point fingers
at world leaders.

today is not the day to
vilify countries
because of the
differences in
cultural norms
or
religious beliefs
or even
crimes against humanity.

today is not the day to
debate
the pros and cons
of war.

today is the day
when we simply
say
“thank you.”

and to all the veterans
i know
and to all the veterans
i’ve never had
and will never have
the honor of meeting,
i do thank you.
deeply,
thoroughly,
sincerely.

thank you for reading them. you know, i wrestled with a longer post all day. as i told my writing partner, i waged battle with myself and my words, not wanting to sound like the ugly american, not wanting to sound anti-american. so i just left it. went to the grocery store, i did, and on the way, this is what flowed out into my handy-dandy always-by-my-side-in-the-car tape recorder.

Pull up a chair why don't you, and let's talk . . .
