thicket sittin’

Forest2

still in the thicket of bark and briars, i am.
and knowing that i am surrounded
by the bright light
of caring friends
means everything to me.
soon . . .
soon . . .
i’ll respond appropriately.
till then: thank you.

I keep coming back here. I think to say, sitting in the thicket and briars reminded me of my favorite saying when I want to do something but don’t want others to know. It’s from Brer Rabbit. “Throw me in the briar patch” he tells the fox who has finally captured him, making it sound like the worst place ever. But in fact it was his home, the place he knew best. And no doubt knew where all the escape doors and windows were. If you are in the briars, right now, perhaps it is a kind of home where you are safe to take care of you and regroup. Just a thought.

And a very good thought, too. I love this perspective, and I love that story. In fact, I frequently refer to my personal tar babies as I peel off layers and layers of conditioning and imprinting. I hadn’t ever thought of this that way, though. Of course! Sitting in the thicket of briars gives me space and time to ponder and sift and sort cause ain’t nobody gonna’ come in after me and get stuck. Brilliant, Sugar. Thank you.

Pull up a chair why don't you, and let's talk . . .
