sometimes
they wrap
themselves up
into small packages
so small
that they
blend right
into the background
becoming invisible
but . . .
if you pause a beat
and use the time to
look very closely
you’ll see
their bright colors
seeping out,
unable to be
contained
despite
the swaddling.

maybe you want to visit the women’s history month series my friend angela is hosting.
there’s a whole lotta’ women letting their colors seep out over there, and it is quite beautiful.

So here I am thinking something very similar as we head into a meeting on raising dahlias in the mountains, and here you are with your wisdom. And neither one of us is surprised.

After reading for the 3rd time, I saw the little girl that was me trying to be small enough to blend into the background. I’m just learning that even then my bright colors were seeping out. How’s that for discovery?

Heading out to dig some more in an area where my father may have lost his Naval Academy ring. My eyes will be looking closely for a speck of gold or sunlight on the red garnet.

How delightful to recognize that your colors have been seeping all along. Bright colors, no doubt. Good luck with your digging. No telling what treasures you will spy while paying such close attention.

I’m trying to find the place, the specific word or image, in this post that makes me sigh, pause, take a deep breath. But it’s the whole thing, and the seeing and the seeping. Thank you for slowing me down today, and for your amazing and constant friendship. xoxo

And I thank you, Sugar, for hosting a space at your blog, giving women a chance to tell their stories about how other women have seen their colors. There are some wonderful stories happening there.
