Altarofearlyblooms

tonight, another of my mother’s altars.
i mean centerpieces.
blooms come early this year
from bulbs transplanted from my great aunt’s yard.
good soil
sunshine
mild temperatures
and love
(or, in my case, benign neglect).
that’s what it takes
for blooms
to grace
the yards
and tables
generation after
generation
after generation.

Such a lovely altar! This serves as a mental prompt to begin carrying a camera everywhere. With such a mild winter, that groundhog is not to be trusted — spring is right around the corner.

I never trust the groundhog, Beauregard or any other!

sugar, it will come as no surprise to you to hear that you’ve been on my mind lots this week. i’ve been traveling, though, unable to swoop by your place and check in. i love the way our friendship resembles ocean waves, in and out, always there. will see you soon. xo

The Hewell women sure do know how to create beauty.

ha! and thank you. (i think it skipped this gene, though.)

yes, this is truth. just now, it is cold and snowy outside, seeing these flowers warmed my smile.

It is an amazing sight to see trees blooming – not budding but blooming – and daffodils everywhere and hyacinths and such. And it’s just February. The azaleas will need to outdo themselves come April when they’ll have the stage all to themselves.

I so love the idea of centerpieces as temporary altars, blessing the table or the meal of the afternoon tea. 🙂
