darkness

3

sometimes you
blow the candle out
and watch
until the last
ember
joins the
darkness.

sometimes you
fan the flame
to keep it
burning
and
stave off
the darkness.

either way,
whether you
find the darkness
or it finds you,
darkness
is a part of
life.
without it,
we don’t know
stars
or sun
or nearly
as much about
ourselves.

just spied this quote
(that seems quite appropriate)
over at the e-home of my
talented and generous
and generously talented
friend
illuminary:

“Knowing your own darkness
is the best method
for dealing with
the darknesses of other people.”
~ Carl Jung

Oh, this is just breathtaking.  Yes, yes, yes.  In these darkest days of the year, I’ve been struck by the appearance of a full and gorgeous moon.  Somehow your words remind me of that duality.  Without the darkness the light wouldn’t have any texture, or power.  xox

Sugar, your words – even in such an elegant comment to my words – bring tears from the most tender places in my heart. Thank you.

    Thanks for the reminder. <3

So true. I loved the end the best, because I find the stars and the moon and other things highlighted by darkness to be some of the most beautiful.

It’s true: contrast is a beautiful thing.
