a funny thing happened on the way to

BackDoor1

: 1 :
i look at the houses
on that flat, straight 2-lane country road,
not much distinguishing
one house from another
save the
vehicles in the yard,
some resting on concrete blocks,
others simply parked.
waiting.

: 2 :
“i’d like to stop
at every house,” i say aloud,
“knock on the door,
and ask the woman who answers:
‘has your life turned out
the way you hoped it would?
the way you wanted it to?
if not, why
and what will you do about it?'”

: 3 :
the epiphany:
i am the woman
on both sides
of the door.

Jeanne, these pictures are beautiful.  And, as one woman on the other side of one of the doors you knock upon, I am happy to see you, and know I can answer you honestly. xo

    • whollyjeanne

And this is why I think that I realized today that your project and my project intersect. I want to cultivate a better life, and you’ve stopped at my door to ask me if things are as I’d like them. Your 365 Altars can help me Cultivate a life worth living — a life in which I’m thriving.

    • whollyjeanne

If you knocked, i would invite you in for Coffee. I would tell you about the things That Are my successes, but I would also tell you the long dirty and often up-hill road that it took to get here.
Tell you I ain’t dead yet, so I am still chugging down that road…
    and sugar
    it’s all good.

    • whollyjeanne

sugar, one day i am so gonna’ knock on your door, and there’s no doubt at all that you will regale me just as much in person as you regale me in your comment. oh my goodness, how i do love you so.

How beautiful to realize I’m not alone in the way I wonder about things I can’t see – things others give relatively no thought to, yet things that really could open the door to significant change.

Upon opening the door and hearing your questions, my eyes would well up with tears, an emptiness within me would start to rise to meet the space just offered to it so that it might emerge into the light ~ and the entire experience would be disconcerting because I did not see it coming.

And yet deep inside, I’d know — it’s time …

Such a beautiful response, Sugar. And about not seeing it coming . . . that’s surprise, my 2fer word for 2012. I have a feeling that giving ourselves over to our innermost selves, bringing our deepest sumptuous selves out to play and wander regularly, will give us a feast of delight in 2012. I’m so glad I know you. xo
